Busy, busy, busy! July 18, 2008

Ok, one month has passed, and I notice I’ve been working long hours. One day I started 9am and when I noticed the time, it was already 1am of the next day. I work mostly via email, phone and on the web, or in one of our stores. I dabble with Adobe Photoshop as well for some of our collaterals. I’m taking care of both marketing and operations for Get Laud, and I am not complaining. When friends ask me how I am, my answer is "busy, ngarag, but happy". It’s now almost midnight on a Friday, and I decided to take a short break.

I’ve been working hard and it’s fun. There were times when I wonder what the heck I got myself into, especially when my todo list keeps piling up. I get a lot done but there are always new stuff to add to my list… remember those comedy scenes about a table that has lots of paper and the clerk isn’t finished yet but then another pile arrives? Hehehe, if you see my table, the chaos gets worse every week! But someone told me before, that when you love what you’re doing, it doesn’t feel like work anymore. That’s exactly how I feel. It’s my labor of love. I sometimes wonder where I get my energy from, and in a month my efforts are bearing fruit. I’m also getting to know the people I work with, totally a different world, but fun just the same.

There are problems to overcome of course, but that’s part of any job. I just have to keep my cool and find the solution. Oh, and I have a project that just finished, can’t mention it yet but once launched I will blog about it :-)

If I take an inventory of time spent, I work, and I spend time with family. The only thing I can complain about now is I can’t as yet find the time to allocate going to the gym. I promised myself I will go as soon as I start, but with so much to get in order, I had to jump in, roll up my sleeves and dive in. Hopefully once I stabilize everything, I can go to the gym 3 times a day. I miss it, and I dread it. Hehehe. But I know I have to take care of my health or else.

A lot of the fun I’m having is being able to use my creative juices… that’s the project I just finished, and have a few more projects. The other thing is meeting and talking to different kinds of people.

Another highlight I had also was watching 3 movies this month:
1. Kung Fu Panda with my neice Gabby, loved listening to her laugh and watching her face enjoy the movie. It’s only her 2nd big screen experience so far. The first one was Enchanted. She loves the viper, and the panda of course. Me? I liked the tigress and the panda!
2. My Fake American Accent - Get Laud sponsored this movie and we were invited to the gala… loved it! It’s about call center agents and their lives and struggles. I somehow can relate since I also handled Helpdesk. Looking back, I almost went for a call center early in my career. No regrets though.
3. Dark Knight - I was soooo happy when my friends Blen and Chad invited me to watch with them… I’ve been promising myself to watch a movie, being in the malls so many times, but never got to do it. The movie was worth watching too. I’m now feeling the downside of being a bachelorette… hard to find someone I can watch a movie with… so am glad they invited me :-)

My DVD player went kaputs, so haven’t been able to watch at home… it’s a Philips and I was told it will cost P2,080 to fix it. I decided to give the go signal even though I can buy a cheapo player for P1,500. It has sentimental value to me because I bought it early on in my career. But if it breaks again, I will replace na. Oh, and I had an accident :-( I was sitting on my office chair, and bending over to pick up a pile of papers. My chair slipped and next thing I know I landed on my butt on the floor and the chair was on top of me. I’m lucky I didn’t break anything, but some parts of my body hurt at times. Hope it goes away soon.

That’s it so far… til the next blog!

Some updates July 5, 2008

I decided to take a break and do some blogging. Some updates:

- SM Batangas fashion show was a success even though it was signal #3 that day with typhoon Frank. I didn’t make it because it was too dangerous to travel. Good thing though is that it went well, I just wish I was able to take some good pictures.
- SM Molino fashion show was moved to later this year.
- SM Pampanga will have a fashion show late July and we plan to be a part of it
- Oct 19 event at Market Market is a go… wait for more details.

Ever since I started, I rolled up my sleeves and plunged into the operations of Get Laud. I am having so much fun with the marketing stuff, and we’re currently working on something really interesting right now. Aside from that, there’s the operations side. It’s always a challenge to implement change, but so far we’re on the right track. I hope things keep going well.

We’re going to open the following stores in the next month or two: Robinson’s Metroeast, NCCC Mall of Davao, SM Fairview, EDSA Central and SM Bicutan. Gulp.

I’ve been working long hours but I enjoyed every minute of it, even when I’m pulling my hair with frustration. I’m in my element here with all the excitement.

I had more than a month’s cough, and only took my friends’ advise to see a doctor last Tuesday, to find out that there was no virus or bacteria causing my super sore throat. It was acid.  My hyperacidity was the cause would you believe that? I was given meds and if I don’t get better in 2 weeks, it might be bile and that will be a big problem and doc says they’re going to stick some tube into my and loob at my stomach… gastroscopy I think. Good thing I’m ok now. No more sore throat, although sometimes I get coughing fits out of nowhere.

Doc also says that I should refrain from talking unless necessary, under threat of throat cancer!?! Now how do I do that when my work involves talking to different people? I was also advised to change my lifestyle and be less stressed (yeah right). Where’s the fun in that? Oh, and no raising of voice. Now THAT is torture! Hahahaha!

After so much trials and tribulations, I finally got my new Blackberry 8820 last Friday. I also have it on my preferred number 0928-55-JENNY(53669). Got it working too after waiting for one and a half month! Thanks to those who helped me get this going. My guardian angels. :-)

Bought an HP Color Laserjet Printer (2600n). I’m sooo happy even though my wallet is smarting from the expense. 6 months to pay with 0% interest. My HP Laserjet 1100 went kaputs and won’t print anymore. I plan to have it repaired so it can still print black and whites. I’m so happy. It’s been my wish for years to have a colored laser printer, and I have it!

Felt sad when my friend Hilda passed away from a freak accident. I hate drunk drivers and life can be so unfair. I have always thought I’d see her again, but we never know. We need to cherish every day that we have, with our friends and with our family. Hilda, my prayers are with you.

I still haven’t gone back to the gym and that frustrates me. Hopefully I can stabilize things quickly so I can go back. In the meantime, no rice or little rice in the evenings, and per doctor’s advise, heavier breakfast, and my last meal for the day should be 3 hours before bedtime.

Haven’t watched a movie in 3 weeks, and still no time so far. But hopefully I can by tomorrow. I was also able to borrow my sister’s DVD El Cuerpo de Deseo but still haven’t found time to watch. Sniff. Such is life.

That’s it so far, no day is too boring at this point, and I’m a happy puppy with all the gadgets I have. :-) And I get to work from home most of the time, with my family and my doggies *grin*
